Star Parties
The HCC S.T.A.R. Squad has regularly scheduled star parties about every 2 weeks, where we set up a variety of different telescopes and observe the Sun, the Moon, planets, stars, and other various celestial objects.
Often, we also set up microscopes to view meteorite specimens, and monitors and laptops for slideshows and presentations. Some of the equipment we use can be seen in photos on our Flickr album: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hcc_star_squad/
At the star parties, we begin our evening with solar observing, which starts at around 5:00 p.m. Stargazing begins at dusk, and continues until ~9:30 p.m. or so (weather permitting).
All HCC students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend our functions, as well as anyone else they would like to invite along; all are welcome!
These events are held at the Stafford, Alief (Hayes), Missouri City, and Gulfton campuses on a rotating schedule. At Stafford, we meet near the South side entrance of the Scarcella Science & Technology building; at Alief and Gulfton we set up near the front entrances of the buildings; and at Missouri City we meet either near the front or rear entrance of the building.
